Jesus answered and said unto him, If a man love me, he will keep my words: and my Father will love him, and we will come unto him, and make our abode with him – John 14:23

“Grammy, do you remember the man I pointed out talking to himself the other day?” Junior asked. “I do,” Grammy responded, “you readily thought that he was acting crazy. But I urged against a snap judgment, because he might be talking to God.  Why do you ask?” “I’m going to use that as an example for my Sunday school homework assignment about how praying comes in all forms, and that you shouldn’t care what others think,” Junior answered.

I like Junior had formed similar opinions of people talking to themselves.  That is until I found myself doing the same thing a couple of times, when I publicly chose to converse with God.    Consequently, I no longer readily jump to my former conclusion when seeing someone seemingly talking to himself or herself.   I now choose to consider them possibly communing with a trusted Friend.

Praying, while it should be considered sacred, should not be perceived as a rigid engagement conditioned to certain times and places. Talking to God is an unlimited personal experience that’s just as meaningful if conducted publicly or privately. Since God is always with the believer through the Holy Spirit, we can enjoy His company whenever and however we please.
