And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever – John 14:16
It’s conversing with a trusted Friend;
His smiling is what I envision.
Longing for our time apart,
To talk and to hear my heart.
Genuine friendship is a great treasure. Having someone who makes you feel valued and appreciated is priceless. It’s a relationship that every Christian has with Jesus Christ through the Holy Spirit, which He first declared to His disciples when He said: “Henceforth I call you not servants; for the servant knoweth not what his lord doeth: but I have called you friends” (John 15:15). Earlier in John 14:16, Jesus had assured them that not even His absence would be able to sever their relationship, but that it would continue through the indwelling Holy Spirit.
Jesus’ promise to His disciples is the same for us. Hence, as Christians, we’ll never need to consider ourselves friendless or without companionship. Prayer is the perfect means to “Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you” (James 4:8).
