One of the greatest rewards of praying is that it reveals the ongoing partnership Christians have with God, equipping and empowering us to live in a fallen world. Jesus demonstrated humble dependency on the Creator by continuously seeking guidance and spiritual restoration. Even with His authoritative position, Jesus never forsook His reliance on God’s omnipotence to fulfill His assignment.
The intimacy of prayer is perfectly described in the theme song from Touched By An Angel, sung by Della Reese in this excerpt: “When you walk down the road/Heavy burden, heavy load/I will rise, and I will walk with you.” It is a comforting reminder that God is accompanying us on the path designed for our lives—talking, listening, guiding, and directing. When we learn to lean on His constant voice, even the greyest days shine a little brighter.
