The Sweetest Sound – Monday, September 14, 2026

A merry heart doeth good like a medicine: but a broken spirit drieth the bones – Proverbs 17:22

If given the choice to choose
what I hope never to lose,
it would be, without a doubt,
what I dare not live without:
the music to my heart and ears
that repels my worries and fears.

When I unhesitatingly join in—
as if invited by a friend
to take a spiritual bath
by allowing myself to laugh—
oh, what healing I’ve found
in that sweetest sound!

The opening is inspired by wonderful memories of my grandson’s contagious laughter. I’ll often be involved in a task, only to be distracted by his boisterous utterances while he watches animated shows, which usually include him performing a jig. Soon thereafter, I find myself joining in his happy state, where that sweet sound is the only thing that matters.

One of the greatest gifts God has equipped us with is the ability to find humor in even the most mundane situations. It’s a conversation I’ll be entertaining for the next several days through scenarios that I hope will offer insight along with laughter—the sweetest sound.
