For God is not unrighteous to forget your work and labour of love, which ye have shewed toward his name, in that ye have ministered to the saints, and do minister – Hebrews 6:10
One of the many takeaways from the movie Awakenings is the relationship that Leonard Lowe—restored from a catatonic state—forged with a young woman. In one scene, he assured her that, though despondent, her father is aware of her visits. The memory of Leonard’s encouraging words resurfaced as I’m reminded of a lady’s consistent presence during my visits to a nursing home, where I would find her seated next to an elderly woman. While their relationship is unknown, or if the lady is a volunteer, it nevertheless demonstrates someone admirably showing up for another.
God has also provided the same assurance of His awareness in Hebrews 6:10, which includes: “For God is not unrighteous to forget your work and labour of love.” Therefore, it does not matter if the service is obscured or overlooked by others. This is proven in Mark 12:41-44 about an offering that outwardly appeared insignificant yet became a perfect example that the least done for the right reasons outweighs the most done for the wrong reasons. This widow’s humble service was seen, and it became a testimonial.
Showing up, whether going to work daily, fulfilling an obligation, or simply being a support for someone, will not be forgotten.
