I made haste, and delayed not to keep thy commandments – Psalm 119:60
A humorous moment occurs at the conclusion of a safety presentation. “I want to thank firefighter McDaniels and police officer Kelly for stopping by our class today,” Nancy cordially expressed. “They shared some important safety tips, such as not calling 911 for non-emergencies. So, before they leave, are there any questions?” “I have one,” seven-year-old Douglas announced, standing. “Okay, what is it?” “Is my mom’s 911 when calling my grandma to watch my younger sister and me the same as your 911?”
The opening parody is inspired by my revised version of the official emergency greeting to: “911 – What time is your emergency?” It’s to reassure my son and daughter-in-law that I’m always available to watch my grandson. However, I’m also learning that God desires me to have the same 911-Ready mindset whenever He gives me a task, such as Isaiah described when he said: “Also I heard the voice of the Lord, saying, Whom shall I send, and who will go for us? Then said I, Here am I; send me” (Isaiah 6:8).
Just as we desire God’s immediate attention when we pray, so must we reciprocate the same expediency when He calls. I’m reminded that it’s never too late to respond: “Who, where, and when?”
