And why take ye thought for raiment? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow; they toil not, neither do they spin – Matthew 6:28
Worrying about what I can’t control
Will not likely prevent what could unfold
So, though hard, I must instead
Allow faith to replace feelings of dread
And expect that whatever is to be
Includes God’s protective care over me
In preparation for traveling, I found it necessary to pack a reminder, by composing the opening poem, of the pointlessness of worrying. It’s the message that Jesus taught about in Matthew 6:25-34 when He said: “Which of you by taking thought can add one cubit unto his stature?” (vs. 27). It was as if Jesus had presented a thesis, whereby He methodically outlined the pointlessness of worrying, the dangers of worrying, and finally the solution for worrying, which is: “But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you” (vs. 33).
God wanted me to remember that whatever He allows to happen, He’ll provide me with the wisdom to handle it. Therefore, while it’s wise to take certain precautionary measures, it’s even wiser to trust in the protective care of the One who has total control over everything.
