Bullies (2 of 2) – Thursday, August 20, 2026

Though hand join in hand, the wicked shall not be unpunished: but the seed of the righteous shall be delivered – Proverbs 11:21

Most people, if asked what bullying is, would readily cite what’s often portrayed on television: a group of thugs harassing timid kids in a school cafeteria to get laughs. What’s not as blatant includes being overlooked for social and promotional opportunities, excluded from recognition, or having their input discounted at work. While the methods have evolved, the aggressor’s motives haven’t changed. It’s still to intimidate and demean those deemed a threat to their own fragile self-worth.

Genesis has consistently proven to be the reference book for many of the issues faced while on earth.  It offers a vivid example of the motivation of those who bully, as in Joseph’s story. His brothers were motivated by extreme jealousy that started with verbal taunts and escalated to physical harm when Joseph was thrown into a pit and sold into slavery. While God allowed Joseph to experience the evil workings of his brothers, it didn’t produce the results they had hoped for. Since the blessings that were predestined for Joseph weren’t sabotaged by what had happened to him, they were instead factored into the ultimate plan.

So, if you find yourself a target of unfair treatment, take it to God, and He will guide you on how to handle it, along with the assurance of a victorious outcome.
