For which cause we faint not; but though our outward man perish, yet the inward man is renewed day by day – 2 Corinthians 4:16
For over a decade, Ben and Erin Napier’s HGTV series Home Town has been dedicated to renovating properties and restoring their owners’ dreams of living in safe and comfortable homes. The same commitment has been for other reality home remodeling shows, such as Extreme Makeover: Home Edition. Ty Pennington’s energetic presence has captured many wonderful moments of heartfelt gratitude, such as: “Every time we start to rebuild our lives… everything would just be squashed by something. This is the hope that we’ve needed.”
It was a commercial featuring an upcoming reality home-remodeling show and a family’s jubilation over their before-and-after home makeover that I wished the same. However, I was quickly reminded of the divine renovation that’s already taking place within me. That Jesus, the great Architect, through the Holy Spirit, is removing, replacing, and renewing so that His dwelling place will comply with God’s specifications.
One of the greatest compliments I received during my evolution as a Christian was when someone asked me, “What happened to you?” The person wanted to know why I wasn’t acting in my former sinful way. I didn’t realize it then, but it reflected the divine renovation that was happening in me. What areas of change have you seen in your life?
