For the LORD of hosts hath purposed, and who shall disannul it? and his hand is stretched out, and who shall turn it back? – Isaiah 14:27
Lord, I come to You with a heavy heart,
Wishing my thorn from me would depart.
Yet I trust what the apostle Paul had been told,
And that Your grace will strengthen me for my load.
So, help to enlighten my heart and mind,
That my thoughts with Yours will align.
And I will view my life in a different way,
To see Your Hand at work every day.
Then I will discerningly recognize
How valued I am through Your Eyes.
Your worth doesn’t decrease just because your faculties do, nor has God’s divine plan lessened for you. I was reminded of this while composing the opening poem—a truth I have at times forgotten. In those moments, I find comfort in God’s declaration to Jeremiah: “Before I formed thee in the belly I knew thee” (Jeremiah 1:5). God knew him intimately before even revealing his purpose. This aligns perfectly with the powerful promise in Isaiah 14:27, assuring us that absolutely nothing can thwart God’s divine plan for our lives.
When our perception of value is based on others’ opinions or a societal standard of ‘normal,’ we set ourselves up for conditional acceptance shaped by fleeting feelings. But when we choose to see ourselves through the eyes of Our Maker, uncertainty then transforms into the assurance of being fully loved and valued, no matter what our season in life looks like.
