Furthermore we have had fathers of our flesh which corrected us, and we gave them reverence: shall we not much rather be in subjection unto the Father of spirits, and live? – Hebrews 12:9
Just like a horse, untamed and wild,
I often behave like an immature child.
Led by the whims of my emotions,
I react to these volatile oceans
By reflecting what’s going on inwardly,
Losing sound wisdom and clarity.
Instead of seeking to remain still,
To wait for the guidance of Your will.
Thus, I come desiring to be inspected,
To reveal what needs to be rejected—
Conflicts that dishonor Your name
And prevent my acting spiritually tame.
The opening poem describes how, at times, I’ve allowed my thoughts to dictate my behavior negatively because of inner turmoil. Like David, I too have sought to be examined, to be tamed, as when he requested: “Search me, O God, and know my heart: try me, and know my thoughts: And see if there be any wicked way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting” (Psalm 139:23-24).
Have you had moments when you, too, desired cleansing from within so that your outward behavior would reflect it? I’ve discovered the process begins with an acronym.
