If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land – 2 Chronicles 7:14
Dear Lord,
Warm me from the chill,
Of this world’s bitter pill,
The violence and deprivation
Gripping this nation.
Let not my heart turn numb,
That I dare not become
Indifferent and desensitized
From the sufferings before my eyes.
Help me never forget
Of the sorrow I could have met
If not for Your mercy
That, in this moment, covers me.
So, I seek obedience
By setting aside resistance,
To bend my knees and pray
For that person who could have been me today.
Of the many “must-haves” to carry forward into May, I believe a state of prayerfulness warrants a high position. With so many heartbreaking happenings throughout our world, it’s quite easy to become indifferent and take on a “them, not me” attitude.
However, reality has proven a crucial truth: life can change in the blink of an eye, and thereby the “them” can become “you.” So, on this first Sunday of the month, I encourage you to remain prayerful.
