Like a whimsical child,
Allowing imagination to run wild,
I picture them in the crowd:
My loved ones, chanting out loud,
Keeping vigil, like a guardian angel,
Coaxing me to remain faithful—
That I will one day come to receive
A crown for those who earnestly believe.
So, while it’s only wishful thinking,
I will cling to the joy it’s bringing.
Even if it’s simply to imagine
Them standing with Jesus, my Friend,
And though they are physically gone,
I envision them steadfastly cheering me on.
The opening poem is inspired by a scene in the final episode of Walker, Texas Ranger, titled: “Final Showdown – Part 2.” It features Walker and Alex holding baby Angela as they walk up their pathway, greeted by cheers from well-wishers awaiting their arrival. This touching image has often stirred my imagination, helping me envision Christian loved ones who, though deceased, are looking down and cheering for me to remain faithful.
While no recordings in the Bible support my wishful thinking, I believe that the tools available to help us Christians—such as devotional books, inspirational music, and shows—include our imagination. For me, that means envisioning my family in Heaven cheering me through this life toward my eternal home. Hopefully, you too have allowed your mind to become like that of a whimsical child.
