Bless the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits – Psalm 103:2
“I’ve already come up with over a dozen benefits of being a Christian for Sunday School’s homework assignment,” Junior exclaimed. “Excellent! And here’s one more thing: God doesn’t charge babysitting fees,” Grammy said. “Huh?” “Oh, don’t mind me. I’m just annoyed with these banks and how their fees for servicing and watching over people’s hard-earned money keep going up and up. It’s ridiculous.” “Thanks, Grammy, you’ve given me the best one: ‘God doesn’t charge to serve and watch over us. The fee was already paid, so we don’t have to,’” Junior said ecstatically.
The day we accepted Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior is the day we opened an eternal account with God. Unlike banks and other financial institutions, it requires no monthly fees. Nor are there any hidden charges, since the total debt was fully disclosed and paid for at Calvary. This thought came to mind as one of the many perks of being a Christian, after discovering increased debits in my bank accounts. The absence of these charges—which I’ve coined ‘babysitting fees’—is just one of the many benefits that we mustn’t overlook.
Whether we are recognizing small blessings or daily essentials, we Christians should always adhere to the words of Psalm 103:2 and never forget His benefits.
