Binding (1 of 2) – Wednesday, October 28, 2026

If a man vow a vow unto the LORD, or swear an oath to bind his soul with a bond; he shall not break his word, he shall do according to all that proceedeth out of his mouth – Numbers 30:2

“Do you think we should read them before discarding them?” Peggy inquired. Jennifer, stirred by curiosity over what remained of the daunting task of organizing their deceased mother’s belongings—several dozen notebooks titled Therapy Sessions With God—was reminded of a pledge the sisters made as kids after a big blowup. “We made a promise a long time ago to respect the other person’s right to privacy as a family,” Jennifer answered. “And we’ve always honored it, and we’ll continue to now. Mom’s thoughts will remain with her and God.

The legal term “Privileged” prohibits the release of certain communications, such as between doctor and patient. This binding agreement is comforting, particularly for those dealing with sensitive issues. However, Christians have the same obligation when promised to perform a service and keep another’s personal business confidential. It’s the message stressed in Numbers 30:2 that these vows are considered binding, and their fulfillment demonstrates faithfulness.

Although certain agreements may need to be severed, prayer and divine peace will guide the way. In all other cases, integrity is the glue that keeps our promises intact.”
