I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith – 2 Timothy 4:7
So I’ll never give up
Never give in
Never let a ray of doubt slip in
And if I fall, I’ll never fail
I’ll just get up and try again
Never lose hope, never lose faith
There’s much too much at stake
Upon myself I must depend
I’m not looking for place or show
I’m gonna win
(“Win” by Brian McKnight)
The opening chorus from the soundtrack for Men of Honor highlights the key elements of a winning spirit, and they each begin with an essential word: “Never.” This encompasses a mindset that chooses not to quit, no matter the odds. For a Christian, this means forging forward along a path, unless instructed otherwise by God. It is the recognition of limitations without allowing them to limit zeal and determination to finish their course, as the apostle Paul did.
I’ve learned a winning spirit doesn’t require favorable odds. It only requires faith to believe oneself a winner, someone unwilling to see oneself any other way. How are you feeling this Sunday? Hopefully, like a winner with God on your side!
