And a stranger will they not follow, but will flee from him: for they know not the voice of strangers – John 10:5
Choosing to go left or right,
When travelling by sight.
It’s easy to lose my way,
To be carried astray.
So, open my eyes,
With faith, to recognize.
The leading of Your Hand,
The wisdom to understand.
And as You set my course,
Then I’ll be guided by Your Voice.
The opening poem was inspired by the show The Voice, where a panel of four notable entertainers selects inspiring singers to coach based solely on their voices. Seated with their backs turned, they are not distracted by other factors, such as appearance, race, or gender; consequently, they turn around only when they hear a desired voice. I was reminded that as a Christian, with the absence of God in human form, I must be attuned to what is available to me: His Voice. This means I must seek to discern and follow it whenever and wherever God chooses to convey it.
I heard it said: “God is always speaking; we need only be willing to learn how to interpret what He’s saying.” When to believe this truth, then His Voice becomes the only voice worthy of turning around for.
