Each member expressed the impact of Sam\u2019s fall, thereby speaking honestly about guilt and resentment. The release of harbored emotions opened the door to forward movement and Sam\u2019s decision to move past reluctance and pursue kayaking lessons. The instructor\u2019s refusal to permit Sam to see herself as handicapped reshaped her passion for the water, eventually leading her to win multiple World Para Surfing Championships.<\/p>\n<p>When you face a life-altering trial, being open with the people who love you unloads the heavy burdens that make the fight even harder. It\u2019s not about ignoring the elephant in the room\u2014your deep hurt and pain\u2014but acknowledging it so you can begin moving beyond it.<\/p>\n<p>Hopefully, the conversations over these last few days about not allowing events, no matter how severe, to defeat you have been beneficial. We should never stop fighting, no matter the challenge.
