I was soon convinced that the latest episode of Anne Pigeon<\/em> hadn\u2019t simply been about solving a string of bank robberies; it also explored redemption and spiritual transformation through the lens of a harsh critic, Anne Pigeon. Her distrust of Pastor Nelson\u2019s mission was compounded by evidence that led her to believe he was the prime suspect. However, after learning of the pastor\u2019s checkered past twenty years earlier\u2014when a bank robber coined the nickname \u201cThe Preacher\u201d\u2014Anne reconsidered her former perceptions. Pastor Nelson\u2019s confession not only pointed Anne to the real culprit but also caused her to acknowledge that people can change.<\/p>\n

People may remember your past behavior and witness your dramatic transformation, yet still refuse to believe it is true or sustainable.<\/em> This is especially common when an individual\u2019s former actions were judged by strict opinions and benchmarks of what is considered minor or deplorable. This is exactly what the apostle Paul encountered when he sought to join the community of believers: \u201cthey were all afraid of him, and believed not that he was a disciple\u201d (Acts 9:26). Even those who had been redeemed themselves could not see beyond the evil tyrant once known as Saul.<\/p>\n

Redemption through Jesus Christ places an individual in right standing with God, but it does not guarantee that others will roll out a welcome mat. Yet, choosing Jesus is a personal decision that should never depend on anyone’s approval\u2014a truth that also applies to staying on one’s life path.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
