Unfinished Business – Thursday, February 19, 2026

They shall still bring forth fruit in old age; they shall be fat and flourishing –Psalm 92:14

“I just need one more word,” Junior announced.  “One more word for what?” Grammy inquired.  “It’s a puzzle I’m working on for Sunday School that requires words or phrases that God won’t tell you to do.  I’m missing one that has six letters and begins with an r.” “Let me see.  Oh, I know what it is.  The word is retire.  See if that works.” “Yes, Grammy, that’s it!  Thanks.“  “It’s what God keeps reminding me of.  That being retired doesn’t mean I’m no longer useful.   It just means that He plans on using me differently,” Grammy explained.

Every day that God allows air to come through your nostrils means you have unfinished business that He has already assigned or will assign to you.  This thought came to mind during morning devotional, as I pondered reaching nine years of retirement.  I believed it was the Holy Spirit’s nudge, reminding me of my usefulness.  It’s a message conveyed in Psalm 92:14 and evidenced by men and women throughout history who chose not to see themselves as finished, but to instead seek the “next” business they needed to do.

However, the message of usefulness isn’t only for retirees; it’s also for unemployed individuals.  While you may have been turned away from gainful employment, do not be discouraged.  God is not finished with you.  He has work for you to do, and with it, your needs will be supplied.
