The Perfect Decorator – Sunday, November 16, 2025

But now, O Lord, thou art our father; we are the clay, and thou our potter; and we all are the work of thy hand – Isaiah 64:8

“And you decorated my life/Created a world/Where dreams are a part/And you decorated my life/By paintin’ your love all over my heart/You decorated my life.” This chorus from Kenny Rogers’ “You Decorated My Life” accurately described a recent conversation.  Inspired by a discussion with another individual about God’s ability to design our lives.  And we consequently agreed that God is the Perfect Decorator.

However, unlike a human interior designer who spends time learning a client’s preferences, God already has full knowledge, as our Creator. It’s what Jeremiah was made aware of when told: “Before I formed thee in the belly I knew thee; and before thou camest forth out of the womb” (Jeremiah 1:5).  God knows how we are wired, as confirmed in Ephesians 2:10, which says: “For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.” So, He knows what’s needed and how to position us to fulfill His ultimate design, the image of Jesus Christ.

When we remember God’s purpose for our lives, then we can be confident with Him as our Perfect Decorator.  We can trust that, however He chooses to arrange our furniture, even if removing unneeded pieces, it’s for our good and will ultimately be to our liking.
