The Might Be’s Vs. The Will Be’s – Saturday, November 8, 2025

But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus – Philippians 4:19

“We need to get Car Shield,” Daphne announced.  “Have you forgotten that we already purchased an extended warranty a month ago for our two cars?” Douglas questioned.  “I know.  But you can never have enough coverage.”  “That’s what you said to convince me we needed to purchase more life insurance.   Okay, if that’s what you want, we’ll sign up for Car Shield tomorrow. But it’s going to cut into the money we’ll have to spend on each other’s gifts, like that heated recliner you wanted.”  “On second thought, you’re right. We don’t need another extended warranty on anything else,” Daphne declared.

Worrying will always make you think of what might happen.  This thought occurred while deliberating over potential breakdowns of properties I own, such as my eighteen-year-old car.  I envisioned it had completely shut down on a busy highway, along with a flooded basement, because the sump pump stopped working.  Or you can trust that I will take care of you, as I’ve done in the past.  This was the alternative thought presented to me.  I can choose to believe myself deficient and in need of tangible assurances or trust in God’s unfailing record.

Anxiety can cause you to form hypotheticals about future calamities, “might be’s” instead of focusing on God’s promises to take care of whatever He allows to happen, “will be’s.” The former will create undue stress emotionally and financially, while the latter will bring peace and faith that no matter what, you’ll be taken care of.
