For the vision is yet for an appointed time, but at the end it shall speak, and not lie: though it tarry, wait for it; because it will surely come, it will not tarry – Habakkuk 2:3

“Grammy, why is prayer so important, since God will ultimately do whatever He chooses?” Junior inquired.  “That’s a good question, Junior, and you’re right, God has the final say.  However, for me, praying demonstrates my belief He’s listening and will respond as a loving Father.  Does that explain why prayer is important?” Grammy asked.  “It certainly does, for me and for my Sunday School homework assignment on why prayer is important.”

Growing for me as a Christian isn’t only in the transformation of behaviors and attitudes; it includes recognizing the importance of prayer. That it’s not needed by God to know what’s on my mind, but rather for me to demonstrate I believe He cares for what’s on my mind. That even with all the other people vying for His attention, I’m still important enough that God will turn an ear towards me.  If untrue, then there would be little need for teachings in the Bible to encourage taking your cares to God in prayer, such as: “The Lord is nigh unto all them that call upon him, to all that call upon him in truth” (Psalm 145:18).

Pushing through prayer is a demonstration of your expectation that God will keep His promise to listen and act.  While the response or its arrival isn’t known, we can nevertheless trust it will be delivered.
