For his anger endureth but a moment; in his favour is life: weeping may endure for a night, but joy cometh in the morning – Psalm 30:5
Why do I like February? Still winter, cold and dreary. Yet there’s something worthwhile about it. I’m reminded not to forget. It’s a riddle. That position in the middle. Between what you’ve gone through. And the better that’s awaiting you. It’s to envision the clearing. Soon to be nearing.
The opening poem was inspired by my anticipation of spring and my wishes for that season. I, nevertheless, must first get through February, which, despite being the shortest month of the year, is known for its volatility. Yet, it must be faced, in whatever way it comes, to get what is desired. The Bible provides sufficient examples of conflict before conquest; one of the greatest was God’s fulfillment of the promise to the Israelites: the land of Canaan. However, they would first need to get through their own February.
If the past is any indication, February will not be a walk in the park. It will likely have some very unpleasant points. This is why it’s critical to remain hopeful that better is nearing and not become forgetful along the way.
