I pray not that thou shouldest take them out of the world, but that thou shouldest keep them from the evil – John 17:15
God, I desire to be mindfully aware
Someone who will empathically care
About the plight of others
As if they were sisters and brothers
God, I also desire to be stress-free
Not occupied by what’s happening around me
To walk Your chosen path, unhurried
To keep my pace, unworried
The opening prayer was composed to reflect an unwillingness to have my head buried in the sand, oblivious of important matters. I instead want to be mindfully unworried—concerned about what’s going on around me—without being overwhelmed by it. It’s a balancing act that requires thoughtful contemplation of John 17:14-16, about living in a tarnished world and not allowing its dirt to rub off.
On this Sunday, as we prepare for the week ahead, let’s be mindful of the happenings in our world, yet be unworried by them. This is true for all situations we may encounter. Remembering, God’s in control no matter what.
