Then beware lest thou forget the Lord, which brought thee forth out of the land of Egypt, from the house of bondage – Deuteronomy 6:12
Currently airing on Fox is Doc, about a highly acclaimed doctor who, after surviving a car accident, has lost eight years of her memory. It’s a very intriguing storyline that addresses the brain’s fragility and how amnesia can occur. However, one doesn’t have to be in a horrific crash to experience impaired recall; it can easily happen when facing a new crisis. This was the warning Moses gave the Israelites as they faced the Canaanites. He was conveying the message: don’t get amnesia.
I recently experienced memory loss when pondering my February budget and the impact of January’s frigid weather. I became anxious about the ripple effect it would have on my finances. Thankfully, I was nudged by the Holy Spirit to remember similar occasions when God supplied. I was reminded of a verse from a poem written for times of amnesia, when it said: “I almost forgot, Lord, what You wanted me to see. That You would never forget about me.”
If God assures us that we are never forgotten, as recorded in Isaiah 49: 16, then we should never forget how He has demonstrated His oath. It’s what Moses stressed to the Israelites, and it’s what we, too, must remember for the days ahead. In other words: don’t get amnesia.
