For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them – Ephesians 2:10
The captivating storyline in the latest installment of Netflix’s Lincoln Lawyer is the flamboyant defense attorney, Mickey Haller, assuming the role of a defendant. Haller’s greatest challenge, beyond the dead body found in his Lincoln Continental Convertible, is the prosecutor’s vendetta against him. She intends to fulfill it through a series of prosecutorial misconduct, such as withholding crucial evidence during the discovery process. Doing so impedes Haller’s chances of fulfilling his objective: proving he’s not a murderer.
Metaphorically speaking, once you accept Jesus’ defense from the penalty of your sins by declaring Him your Savior, you automatically become an enemy of the prosecutor, Satan. One of his strategies is to prevent Christians from discovering their full potential, the “good works” that they were purposed for. He’ll use whatever prosecutorial misconduct he can to obscure God’s voice, to thwart: “My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me” (John 10:27).
A very insightful quote that’s attributable to Mark Twain is: “The two most important days in your life are the day you are born, and the day you find out why.” The why, our purpose, isn’t what Satan wants us to discover. He knows once we do, then there’s no stopping us from being effective for God.
