Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new – 2 Corinthians 5:17
“What! I got a B! What did I do wrong?” Candice yelled. “Let me see,” Wendy said, grabbing her roommate’s paper and inspecting it. Shortly thereafter, she says, “Here, read the professor’s note on the back.” “It says my grade was reduced because I didn’t change the default settings to the professor’s formatting requirements,” Candice announced. “Well, Dorothy, my dear, you are no longer in Oz. You’re in the big league now. You’re in college,” Wendy declared jokingly.
There’s one thing that Microsoft Word, Google Docs, and other word processing software all have in common: default settings. They are the standardized basic functions within a document, such as font, size, and line spacing. The problem arises when it’s believed that changes in any of these areas will carry forward. Because, despite having adjusted certain configurations, if not updated and classified ‘set as default’, each new project will automatically reapply the old settings.
Although our acceptance of Jesus Christ has made us “a new creature: old things are passed away,” we are still required to go through a process of transformation. This consists of partnering with God to change our default settings.
